An Industrial Internet Of Things solution of providing analytics for predictive maintenance for a leading manufacturer of rotary indexing tables
Client: FIBRO is a worldwide market leader in manufacturing of rotary indexing tables. Rotary indexing tables from FIBRO are used as swivel axis for positioning work piece carrier in machines and tools. Thousands of FIBRO rotary units have been incorporated as essential components in high performance industrial machines around the world.
Challenge: FIBRO was seeking to leverage analytics and Internet of Things (IOT) to develop a platform that could help maintain quality, performance and efficiency of rotary tables by avoiding unforeseen malfunction. Their end goal was to enhance product value for their customers by providing predictive maintenance features and functionalities.
The platform was required to collect data from various sensors (for example vibration and temperature). Once the data is collected, predictive maintenance algorithms identify detection of critical areas including:
- Wear of bearings
- Unbalanced load
- Low consumables
FIBRO also required a flexible and intuitive web interface with cutting edge charting capabilities.
Solution: SSI’s team of engineers spent time to understand FIBRO’s business operations and architected a platform customized to the management’s requirements. The platform includes sensors to collect data, a data hub/ repository, a data acquisition device (DAQ Board), and a web-based analytics application. The following types of sensors were used:
- Vibration Sensors
- Temperature Sensors
- Particle Sensors
- Oil Level Sensors
Data collected from all the sensors is fed into the Sensor Box which transmits the sensor raw data in real time to the DAQ Board where it is analyzed and stored after every complete rotation. This data is analyzed and captured by the web-based analytics application that provides the end user the ability to track critical information and health checks for example crash check, overload check, temperature trend and event logs.
Result: FIBRO clients can now easily monitor and maintain the health of their rotary tables through predictive analytics and avoid costs that might occur due to damages.
