Client: Healthcare Business Insights (HBI) provides best practice research, data, and education to over 1,400 hospitals across the U.S. Through its four member-focused academies—revenue cycle, IT, supply chain, and cost and quality—HBI helps healthcare organizations share best practices, benchmark data, train staff, and improve performance.
Challenge: The client’s services were delivered through an outdated web portal that was challenging to maintain and unable to scale with increasing demands. Built on disparate software platforms, the portal faced difficulties with data consolidation and required significant programming time for minor updates. It lacked intuitive design and easy navigation, hindering user experience and content accessibility.
Solution: SSI reengineered the portal by consolidating the back end onto a single, robust platform with streamlined data integration and enhanced site architecture. SSI introduced flexible e-learning modules, upgraded charting formats such as heat maps, and incorporated enhanced graphics to improve user experience. The back-end improvements were paired with a rebranded website developed in collaboration with an external marketing agency.
Result: The new and improved application is scalable, flexible, and easier to manage, allowing for the seamless addition of new features. Users can intuitively navigate and export content, increasing portal usage and membership growth. The enhanced portal played an instrumental role in HBI’s acquisition by Decision Resources Group in 2015, with SSI spearheading the technical presentation to the prospective buyer.
