United States Steel Corporation

Client: United States Steel Corporation is 15th largest global steel producer. Straightline Source was a subsidiary of US Steel with sales of $200M. The company manufactures a wide range of value-added steel sheets and tubular products for the automotive, appliance, container, industrial machinery, construction, and oil and gas industries.

Challenge: Straightline Source chose Strategic Systems International to implement a comprehensive supply chain optimization system.

Solution: SSI used its expert methodologies of data science, supply chain management, business services and data integration to implement a robust supply chain management suite for Straightline Source.  The key processes involved in the procedure were demand forecasting, procurement & enterprise planning, master coil inventory planning, finished goods inventory planning, reverse trim optimization, order fulfillment, and trim optimization. From optimizing order fulfillment to finished goods or master coils (rolls), the solution determined the best processing facility for each order and minimized trim waste.

Result: With SSI solution Straighline Source was able to efficiently grow its business to $200M in 18 months as the system had the capability to manage a network of 80+ supply chain partners. The system also had the capability of managing hundreds of customers.
